REFLECTION
Experience
Embarking on the journey of learning typography has been a rollercoaster of excitement, challenges, and valuable discoveries. Throughout the process, we checked on seniors and peers' e-portfolios to understand more on what requirements and things to apply in our own work and e-portfolio. This is a way for us to learn from others. The challenges of ideation, design creation, and digitization were indeed daunting, yet the overall process remained strangely enjoyable. The struggle to create visually appealing designs consumed considerable time, leading to a journey of trial and error in pursuit of an eye-catching result. Yet, I am glad that I have learnt so much about Typography and had a new experience. There are times that I also felt like I am not satisfied with my works, but I truly believe that it is a process of learning, and I will improve myself in the future.
Observations
In every task, I realise that I often spend too much time on thinking about what to do and causes me to start them late. As a result, I always felt stressed and overwhelmed, which I really think that it is a serious problem that I should avoid. Nevertheless, I have somehow improved a little compared to the start, I would try starting to do the assignment and avoid myself from thinking too much because the more ideas I have, the more difficult for me to decide.
Time by time, I slowly know how to observe better on many small details while completing the tasks. Not only that but I also became more observant in daily, looking at the fonts on certain things like brands, logos and things related to Typography, it is somehow interesting. From Week 1 to Week 14, I do see changes and improvements in my works. From only knowing how to sketch, I could now format the layouts, digitising and creating fonts. I could now understand more about Typography, about its background, purposes, types of fonts etc.
Findings
Typography is a great module that teaches us a lot in understanding the basics and process of designing. Learning that we should frequently ask for the feedbacks from lecturers after a work is done and listen to the ideas given, this is the time where we can change and refine our work to a better outcome. It is also crucial to discuss and ask questions to peers when being unclear, they could assist us and help us understand better. Most importantly, we should remember that there isn't always perfection, even imperfections could be great. In my mind, I believe that success in gaining experiences is closely tied to the process of learning and enjoying oneself along the way.
