FINAL PROJECT

Instruction:
Based on FLIP group topic research, produce a basic video animation.

Description:
Using a processed design framework, you will now produce an infographic report to present the given information to a ‘target audience’ with the purpose of:

1. Creating awareness (such as Global Warming, Recycle, etc.)
2. Explaining a process (such as "how to" video)
3. Defining a concept (such as "What is Fast Fashion", "What is Color Wheel", etc.)
Any time based media and software using photography, vector imagery.

Design Considerations:
● Organization Principles – LATCH and Content Organization
● Aesthetic Principles – Animation principles
● Cognitive Principles – Principles of visualization

Output Expectation:
The presentation must be deliberated on, consider each assessment rubric of sorts to your final outcome:
● Show causality
● Multivariate graphics and visuals
● Integrate word number and images
● Content count
● Within eyesight
● Use multiple charts
● Do not de-quantify

In the first week of tutorial, we formed a group which consist of 10 members. As a group, we decided on the topic of Adopting VS Buying pets (Mr Shamsul said it was an interesting topic).

Every member was responsible for their own parts in completing the slides for the presentation on Canva.

After completing the proposal presentation slide on Sunday, we presented the slide on the next day (second week) as the first group.
After that, we met physically on campus in Week 4 to discuss the final project and split the tasks. Our leader also created a document that includes the overall overview and project information from members, task assignments, etc. I was assigned to work on the storyboard and script together with Suet Yee.  We discussed how to present the information through a short animation video that conveys a message encouraging pet adoption. Once the other members approved the story, we proceeded with the next steps.

We started of by sketching the storyboard which we divided the scenes into half, I sketched the first scene to early scene 2 while Suet Yee sketched on the later part of scene 2 to scene 3.

Script(initial)

However, it turned out that what we needed was a video with information and graphical elements, rather than a full animation. What we initially created was more like an animation, which did not meet the requirements. So, we adjusted our approach, incorporating the necessary information, including graphics, charts, and costs, while also referencing details from our FLIP presentation. We then redid the storyboard and script accordingly.

New Script

After completing our parts, the VO team, along with the illustration and animation team, worked together to create the infographic video.

Thanks to everyone's hard work and teamwork, the video was successfully completed and uploaded to YouTube for submission:

FEEDBACK

WEEK 2

Specific Feedback

  • reduce the amount of information presented
  • create a comparison infographic
  • add links to slides or the e-portfolio

WEEK 4

Specific Feedback

  • balance graphic & info (graphic + have charts, costs, etc.)
  • currently our storyboard feels like a short story rather than a infographic video

WEEK 6

Specific Feedback

  • animators comment:
-hold abit on certain parts to read the text easier (it is too fast)
  • illustrators
-choose modern typeface (to treat that as a body copy)
-heading using current typeface, information use another typeface (captions)
-more consistent with typeface, and illustration
  • by next week:
    -have at least vo
-sound effects in certain parts, add song if needed

WEEK 7

Specific Feedback

  • the animation looks clear and the timing is okay. in terms of the graphic element, okay, layout is also okay

REFLECTION

Experience

This group project was a valuable experience that allowed us to explore different ways of presenting information effectively. Initially, I really enjoyed sketching the storyboard and felt that it could have been a cute and engaging way to convey the message. However, we later realized that our approach leaned more toward animation rather than an infographic, which didn’t align with the requirements. We considered keeping some parts of the original concept while integrating more factual content, but in the end, it would have been too confusing and unnecessary. So, we decided to completely redo the storyboard and script to ensure it fit the criteria.

Completing the storyboard was crucial because it served as a foundation for the rest of the team to proceed with illustration and animation. Once our part was finalized, the other members could smoothly move forward with their tasks. Despite the initial setback, the process was a learning experience, and I didn’t see it as a bad mistake—just something that helped us improve. My groupmates were supportive, and everyone contributed fairly to their respective parts, making the workflow smooth.

Looking back, I feel that this project strengthened my ability to refine content and balance information with visuals. We had to think about how to make the message clear while keeping it engaging, using elements like charts, costs, and key statistics. Seeing the final video come together was really rewarding—the illustrations and animations turned out adorable, and the overall outcome was well-structured.

This project also highlighted the importance of adaptability and collaboration. Even though we had to make major changes midway, we managed to adjust and create a final product that met the requirements while still being visually appealing. In the end, it was a meaningful experience, and I appreciate the teamwork that went into making the infographic video a success.
