WEEK 9- DIGITAL SURREALISM
Realism vs Surrealism
Realism
- takes subject matters of the ordinary and common world which we call "reality"
- it almost always takes a non-exotic and non-extraordinary subject matter and theme
- a twist on Realism
- it explores the subconscious mind, with subject matters concentrating on dream-images
- often aims to distort the ordinary and what we call reality
- defies logic
- Salvador Dalí, Spanish Surrealist painter and printmaker is known for exploring subconscious imagery promoted free association and dream imagery
- a cultural movement focused on type of arts to express about the artist’s idea themselves
- one of the top digital art styles in this digital era

TASK 2B- CONCEPTUAL PRODUCT PHOTOSHOOT
WEEK 9
To find research of conceptual product photoshoot and pick three favourite images, add to the reference moodboard. Doing research is useful for us to get more ideas to create our own conceptual product. We are tasked to take pictures of the interesting objects that can be found at home with suitable lighting techniques. And then, create a photo manipulation of the subject using Photoshop to make it interesting. After that, write a summary about our idea and create sketches.
RESEARCH
Fig W9.1 reference mood board, Week 9 (21/11/2023)
I plan to combine both objects which have similarities in each other or when both objects with no similarities but can be formed into one new object. Here are some objects found from my house:
1. Paper cup + Lightbulb: Milkshake topped with whipped cream! However it's not edible...
6. Keyboard + handbag: A keyboard bag to bring out for school or work, more smaller and convenient.
DIGITISATION
After sketching all six new objects, I plan to digitize my first sketch:
REFLECTION
So far, this assignment was quite enjoyable due to being able to create new things without much limitations. Looking up for inspirations did help in enhancing our creativity. If I have to say something I took much time was to think of what objects I want to take picture. I came to understand that although there are many items in our household, it would still be challenging to pick what objects to combine together. Luckily, I managed to find random things around the house and sketch them out. I really enjoyed the sketching and colouring part although this part isn't very important, maybe I just find drawing things like these are calming, especially in the middle of having stress due to loads of assignments.
Besides that, in this task I could digitize the artwork more faster since we have done many exercises on the previous weeks. I find this week's lesson quite interesting as we could explore the artworks of worldwide artists and photographers of surrealism and realism. It's crucial that we study their creative expression in order to produce works that are similar to theirs.
