TASK 2: SHOOTING PRACTICE & EDITING

PART 1- PRODUCTION SHOOT (GROUP)

On week 5, we were given a task of video production shooting based on some scenes from "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" and were assigned to 3 groups per class. After getting to know our groupmates, we began discussing on the roles for our task. Then, we filled in the crew list and prepared shooting for the coming week.

As an assistant director, I had to prepare the call sheet, shooting schedules and shot list.
Fig T2A.2 Personal Tasks

During the making of preparing the shooting schedules and storyboard, I was not entirely sure about how to do it. Therefore, I asked one of our groupmates, which was the director, Zoe, for assistance. She explained what I had to do, then I completed the storyboard based on the given template and printed it out for easier reference during the shooting process. Together, for the schedule, we discussed on which parts were more suitable to filmed first and completed the document together.

During the shooting day, everyone worked together on setting up the camera, location and helped each other throughout the process. I was in charge of holding the clapperboard and record the attempt of scenes, shots and takes. As an assistant director, I also took care of the whole team during the shoot, ensuring everyone were comfortable and work together as a team.

EDITING PROCESS

1. SCENES & AUDIO SELECTION

The scenes and audios were fully imported to the Google Drive. Luckily, YuTian noted down which videos were the good takes and provided the number of the audios, provided much help and saved us time to browse on the unarranged files.

Here was the list:

Scene3shot5 take5/6 no audio
Scene1shot2 take6 audio18
Scene1shot3 take5 audio26
Scene1shot1 take9 audio37
Scene2shot4 take12 audio53
Scene4shot6 take6 audio60
Scene4shot7 take 5 audio67

I imported the chosen files into Adobe Premier Pro and removed the voices that shouldn't be belonged to the videos and matched the audios.

2. COLOUR GRADING

We have to apply colour grading on the 7 scenes based on the given combination of below:

  • Teal & Orange
  • Blueish(Cold)
  • Greenish(Cold)
  • Brownish(warm)
  • Desaturation, 50%-70%
  • B&W
  • High contrast

PART 2- TIKTOK/ INSTA PROPOSAL (UNTIL PAGE 5): INSTA_TIKTOK VIDEO TREATMENT

In presentation slide, fill in favourite videos and talk about the ideas for Tiktok/ Insta proposal (until page 5). (Week 5)

I've come across numerous videos that piqued my interest, yet the guidelines permitted the selection of only three. Therefore, I opted for three distinct styles, each resonating with elements I cherish: the beauty of life, nature, and adventure. Despite their differences, these videos all share a common thread, reflecting themes that deeply appeal to me. They capture the essence of life's wonders, the awe-inspiring splendor of nature, and the thrill of embarking on adventurous journeys. Though diverse in their presentation, each video speaks to my appreciation for the extraordinary and serves as a source of inspiration.

Honestly, I am still unsure if I would want to pick that video as my inspiration to create the final video for the task. Therefore, when we actually start this task, I will reconsider and see if I want to change the content to something else.

Tiktok/ Insta Proposal(incomplete), Week 5 (19/05/2024)

Due to personal reasons and difficulties in meeting up with my friend for the shoot since we were very busy, I had to change my idea for the shoot. I decided to keep the running theme, but instead, I will complete the filming process by myself.

STORYBOARD
I sketched the storyboard on my ipad to see what kind of scenes I want to have in my final video. I also made minor changes when I have the scenes taken. Not every scene were drawn correctly, it was just for reference. Unplanned scenes like my dog appearing in the video was not sketched here.

VIDEO SHOOTING
I took about 80 videos and then I selected the suitable ones and edited in CapCut. Referring to the storyboard, I also added some scenes like the car scene to show a smoother process of how I got to the park(small forest). While recording the scene where I was trying to wear my shoes, my dog showed up at the video, so I thought I could just include it too.

I had also adjusted video by video on the brightness, HSL, saturation, temperature etc. to enhance the overall look. I inserted captions on certain parts and transitions such as black out and pull out were included.

REFLECTION

Experience

PART 1

In this assignment, we got into assigned to random groups, its my first time not being able to be in the same group as my close friends. Nevertheless, I got the chance to meet new people from my class. We worked well together in a group and distributed the task evenly. When I faced challenge for the preparation, Zoe assisted me a lot and so we could come up with something. During the editing, I enjoyed adding the colours and filters to the videos but the arrangement of videos and finding a suitable background music took quite much time.

PART 2

For this task, I was stuck at first since its quite broad to select for something to film. I had to watch many videos on Instagram and TikTok to choose my favourite ones, there were too many good videos. I also had to change the idea of the initial plan. However, I find it enjoyable to film and edit the videos by my own. Although the process and outcome is very weird to me HAHAHA.
